Using Achievements & Conditions

Retro game style image with a locked treasure chest, a player and a key. Message: The chest is locked. You can only unlock it if you have a key.

Achievements

An Achievement is something ‘extra’ that you add to an overlay that can be gained, or achieved, by the end user.

Achievements and Score are different – overlays can have both.  You can add, subtract or set an Achievement to any value.

Use Achievements in combination with Conditions to gamify your experience.

How to add an Achievement

In the Overlay Properties tab, scroll down to Achievements and click Add Achievement.

You can tick “Allow multiple clicks” this means that a learner can click on the overlay multiple times to add the achievement to their inventory more than once.

Give your inventory item a name, for example: key, lamp, sword, etc. Decide whether you will subtract, add or set the inventory item to a value. Then use use slider to determine the value.

Conditions

A condition is something that must be met in order to do something else.

For example, I have a locked chest. You can only unlock the chest if you have collected a key in a previous node.

How to add a Condition

In the Overlay Properties tab, scroll down to Conditions and click Add Condition.

You can combine Conditions using “and / or” – if you are just setting one condition, you can leave the default. Select the inventory item from the Inventory Item field.

Use the slider to set whether the overlay will appear if the Achievement (inventory item) is less than, equal to or greater than the Value.
