Adding subtitles

Adding subtitles makes videos accessible to a wider audience and with Near-Life’s subtitle feature you’ll help your audience get the most of your interactive videos.

Steps

You can add subtitles to your scenarios when you work with 2D video media.  We recommend adding subtitles as the final step, once your scenario has been built out and before you publish.

  1. Open the Scenario that you want to add subtitles to.
  2. In the Scenario Canvas, select the Media tab.
  3. To open the subtitle editor, click on the Closed Captions icon below the media file you want to add subtitles to.
  4. Click the Add Subtitles button.
  5. Next, select the language of the subtitles that you want to add. It’s important to select the correct language format as this ensures the correct subtitles are displayed for end users.
  6. Paste your subtitles in the Subtitle Editor window. Subtitles must be in the correct VTT format.
  7. Click save.
  8. To add another language, click the Add Subtitles button again and select a new language.
  9. Paste your subtitles.
  10. Click save.
  11. Repeat for each video node in your scenario.
  12. To test that your subtitles are working, click on the node preview icon.
    1. When the preview window opens, you’ll notice a small icon in the bottom right of the preview screen playbar (just above the close button).
    2. Hover over the icon, select a language to launch and view the subtitles.
    3. You can also switch to different languages if you have added them.

Subtitles are currently limited to English, German, French, Spanish or Portuguese and must be in VTT format. You can upload subtitles for just one language or all. If you provide subtitles for more than one language, the end user will be able to select and set the default language by clicking on the CC icon in the scenario player.

You need to upload subtitles for each media file that makes up your interactive scenario.  If you don’t already have subtitles in VTT format, there are lots of platforms, like VTT Creator, available online that will help you create them.
